My Friday has begun

November 5th, 2009

I’m off work tomorrow.  Christina and I head up north to meet with several DC and NYC cohorts to head out to the eastern shore of Maryland.  Right around here.  We planned this trip months ago as a Fall getaway, a way to see some friends that have been missing from our day to day, and as an added bonus, we’re going to look at the feasibility of having our wedding out there.  I can’t wait to see everyone.

We’ve got a few missing from the trip, but they’ve assured us they’ll be down to Naples this winter when their respective homes are frozen, which is excellent.

Begin geek section: In metaphorically morbid news, the gamer in me has a chronic illness and is starting to die.  I’ve had plans to upgrade the home PC and I’m finding that the money I’d like to put into the new system may not even be worth it. I’m also pretty much done with wargaming and other table-top games.  The time investment to enjoyment ratio is just too low.

When it comes down to it, the two things that make any sort of gaming fun for me are lacking:  time and the right people.

I may still build a new machine in order to stop using my laptop-acting-as-a-desktop sometime early next year, but with most of my gaming friends growing older, having kids, obligations, and other activities, the days spent in gaming bliss are hard to find when I look at my calendar.

So I took her by the arm, we settled down upon a farm
And raised our children up as gently as you please

And now my fur has turned to skin and I’ve been quickly ushered in
To a world that I confess I do not know
But I still dream of running careless through the snow
